Had a great and fun family dinner here. Service was great and with a smile and we were seated immediately. We had a reservation. The serving was very large and every course was so tasty. They were very accommodating for those at the table with allergies to seafood. Teddy was our chef and he was so funny and made the experience really great! Definitely go and try it out if you're in the mood for Habachi! A definite win! They also serve noodles AND rice, which was a nice touch.

Typical hibachi steak house. Nothing really different from any other Japanese steak house. Spicy tuna roll was average at best. Table chef was friendly and all the food was cooked well.

  • Andrea C.

Absolutely amazing hibachi! The food was impressive and so were the chefs! Lots of character and fun for everyone! We laughed the entire time! Portions are huge and could definitely be split! We walked out with tons of food and full bellies! Skip the frozen drinks though, not the best!

  • Perry W.

The food here was incredible! My family each had hibachi dinners and the portions were large enough for each of us to take home leftovers. Dinner for four each with a drink for just over 100$ is unheard of in New York! I would recommend going here for anybody who is in the area.

Good service and good food. Not as good as Miyabi (smaller portions and less flavor) but definitely worth checking out if you're at Broadway on the Beach. Get reservations the day before as well because they do not take reservations the day of.

We made a reservation for 6 and a baby and were immediately seated. Only a couple minutes passed before we were served with drinks and the chef came right out. Our chef was great. I wish I knew his name. He kept us laughing the whole time with jokes, picked on us a good bit, and had a great sense of humor when we picked back. The food (especially the filet mignon) is the best hibachi style meal I have ever had. I'm not a huge scallop fan, bit several in our party ordered them, and they were bigger than half dollars and very thick. In general the portions were large, and as the good places do, we received a shrimp appetizer. One of the best things was the sherbet at the end with our bill. Sweet, but very light. I can't wait to eat my leftovers, and really can't wait to go back!

  • Allison J.

From reading the reviews on Yelp, my family figured we'd give this place a go! The food was absolutely amazing. Our chef seemed to be an experienced one, he was very interactive and cooked the food to perfection. I would go back again! Highly recommend!

Food was good. Absolutely no entertainment from the chef and the waiter made us feel rushed. Not a real good experience for what we were expecting.

Great place to eat with good people, when u come I'm try to talk a lot of smack to the employee named jason. Emphasize on him being a twinkie (Asian on the outside white on the inside)

  • Leah B.

Food was great! The portions are huge. You definitely get plenty of food for your money. I have never had dessert included with my meal at a Jap restaurant, but the scoop of sherbet really made a good impression.

Used to be a fun place to eat but tonight our chef would have been a better fit for a Denny's. Nothing special. The place is tired. Needs updating.

The locals might hunt me down for spilling the beans, but one of the best kept secrets at Yamato's is the excellent sushi bar that's hiding on the other side of the bar. If the stand-by line looks a little crazy, walk right past everyone and have a seat in this little known area. Try the beef tataki, it's awesome! You can't go wrong with the hibachi, either. It's everything you'd expect. You'll get the ever popular onion volcano that is set on fire to everyone's delight; followed up by the shrimp toss! Always good fun without so much as a singed eyebrow. By the way. The portions are ha----uge! -Neil

The good: Atmosphere is open and inviting. Lots of food for your money. The meh: Typical hibachi food. Typical hibachi chef show. (Really is anyone over the age of 10 entertained by the peeing boy squirt bottle?) Same bad puns from the chef.. eggroll, butterfly. *yawn* The bad: No menu options for my picky eater. Most other hibachis we have gone to at least have French fries. Salad was bad. It was like the bag salad from the grocery store served swimming in dressing. The "soup" was awful. The broth was slightly salty water with a single piece of scallion in it. I might go back, but I think there are better dining options.

We came here while on vacation and wanted to be at Broadway at the Beach to drink after having dinner. I called the restaurant ahead of time and was told that parties of 2 normally get sat within 20 minutes. We walked in the door at about 730/8pm and was told the wait would be an hour. I asked how far we could walk around without losing service on our reservation disc and they said about two stores. Thankfully the hostess told us about the hidden sushi bar with seating. We walked right back to the sushi bar and got to pick any seat or table we wanted. The only catch is you can only get side orders of the hibachi items at the sushi bar. My boyfriend doesn't like sushi/is allergic to seafood so he ordered a "side" of the teriyaki chicken, fried rice, and vegetables and then asked for a big plate to mix it all together - almost identical to a real hibachi meal. I got a shrimp tempura roll and added cucumber (I believe it was called the Yamato roll), side order of chicken and split the friend rice with my boyfriend, it was all delicious. I definitely recommend this place and would return. Make sure to check out the sushi bar if there is a long wait!

  • Robert C.

The chef is the only reason I'm giving two stars. He was awesome. The downfall started with the soup it was served lukewarm at best. Then it got even worse with the salad. The dressing tasted awful. Don't get me wrong we love Yamato and eat a lot in Columbia SC. So I know for a fact they can do better. Maybe a good time to concentrate more on customer satisfaction and less about volume of people. The other bad part is the chef that thinks he is funny by singing at the table he is lucky somebody hasn't knocked him out for making people listen to that crap. The people smile to be nice but in reality they want you to just shut up and entertain us with your cooking skills.

Two of my girlfriends and I hit up Yamato's last week for happy hour and dinner. It was SO good, we sat at the bar first and took advantage of Sangria and Martini happy hour...Strawberry Rosemary Sangria is unreal, and the most affordable Ciroc Red Berry Cosmo on the beach by far! After an hour wait for a table (which we didn't mind at all, with the bar available and wonderful bartenders to chat with, it flew by). The hibachi was delicious, the chef was super, and our server was very friendly!! Happy to have finally tried this place, & as locals, we will definately be back!

I came here on Valentines day and had a good experience. The food was great and the pricing was decent for this habachi style restaurant. I did have to have someone sweep up the floor i had to sit directly over what looked like a half bowl of rice and mess spilled over. I ordered the chicken and steak which was very flavorful. I had enough for a take home bag.

  • Michele B.

My husband and I went here for a nice evening out on our vacation without the kids. We decided to dine at the sushi bar since the hibachi grill area was packed. A good sign in my opinion. We had the chefs choice sushi/ sashimi for two and two large bottles of sake. It was fantastic! Every bite was delicious and melt in your mouth amazing! Our waitress was attentive but not pushy. We took our time and enjoyed every moment. We may even bring the kids back for the hibachi grill experience.

  • Nicole F.

It's about the same as all the rest of the hibachi restaurants you'll ever go to. I've yet to find one that really shocks/amazes me with something new and different. However, that still does not beat the quality (and quantity!) of food you'll get and the entertainment of the chefs. It's always great for groups and families and a fun vacation experience. I went outside the traditional chicken/steak/shrimp box and ordered the Mahi Mahi. It was good, but a little bland. My husband ordered the scallops and they were amazing. Always a good choice. The miso soup was good, salad had nice dressing options (go with the spicy soy!) and the dessert was just enough to give you a taste of sweet to top off your palette. Prices were reasonable and what you'd expect for a restaurant at Broadway at the Beach and in the hibachi steakhouse realm.

By far our favorite Japanese steakhouse. We've been eating here since they opened and still love it. We've only ever had one bad experience there when they changed our reservation without telling us because they booked a large party. But one bad experience out if do many is pretty good. The food is great and there's lots of it. The people are friendly also.

  • stefi k.

Atmosphere is good, service was good, a few new "tricks" by chefs we haven't seen at other places. Food was prepared fast, probably to flip tables fast and get more people in the door. Because of the fast preparation, food quality wasn't that good, a lot of butter on everything. If you like butter, you'll LOVE this place. It was worth it.

  • Erin E.

Excellent! Very personable and comical hibachi chefs, very fresh and tasty food. Call the day before for reservations, the normal wait time is 2 hours. We visit every year, you can never get enough yum yum sauce!

  • Amelia R.

I have eaten here on vacation for many years, and have always enjoyed it. The food is excellent. This time, it was delicious (as expected). My boyfriend got the chicken and shrimp and I got filet. We also got edamame as an appetizer. This time, they are losing 2 stars for absolutely horrible service. The waiter never refilled our drinks, forgot our non-hibachi sides, didn't bring silverware, never cleared the plates, etc. I will give Yamato's another chance, considering I have dined here for many years -- but if I was a first-timer, the awful service would have pushed me away for good.

  • Anne Z.

It's your typical Japanese steak house with a table-side cooking show. The food is good, but nothing spectacular. Your experience will depend largely upon your chef and the group you are seated with. I have nothing strongly positive or strongly negative to say - we had decent service, our chef looked to just be 'dialing in' his performance. The meal is a little pricey, but they always are at these kinds of places. The food was good, but very salty (also typical of all Japanese steak houses). My friend who got sushi said that it was also good, but nothing made it stand out.

  • Selcuk Y.

Good food with a nice location and atmosphere. Plenty of food and cooked fresh right in front of you. I've eaten at many hibachi restaurants and this one doesn't disappoint. Gets very busy in the summertime so call ahead and make a reservation.

One of my family favorites! Food is wonderful and in a fun atmosphere.. Always busy and for a good reason. Been there many times.

  • Molly S.

Me and my best friend ate here for the first time, the wait for us two was only 20 mins which we thought was reasonable considering how crowded it was. The fillet and shrimp was awesome and they are the only place I have ever been that served free sherbet ice cream after the meal! It was a wonderful change and atmosphere!

Been visiting for years and it's great every time and have brought many friends along which agree. I feel it's much better food then Benihana and the chefs are much more entertaining

My family has been coming here for years and the food is always good except last year. I think we had a new cook & he burned everything. I guess that could of happened anywhere but my kids luv this place so we tried it again because they asked & to our delight it was great!! You must make a reservation or you will wait 2 hours for a table on any night, especially during the summer months. I made a reservation on line and it was very easy. I made one mistake though and inadvertently booked it on the wrong night & showed up for our reservation 1 day early. Completely my fault & the girl at the desk felt bad I made the mistake & squeezed us in 20 mins later, even tho I heard her tell numerous guest before me they had a 2 hour wait without reservation. A+ for customer service! The portions were generous, our cook was funny, (as they usually are) and he cooked everything to perfection. Steaks medium, medium rare, medium well, he didn't burn a single one! This is the best Japenese steakhouse in Myrtle Beach and I will be returning next year for the great food, A+ customer service and unique atmosphere, view of the lake!

I've been here several times and I've always had a great time and good food. The staff are always friendly and polite. The food is great and they have a variety of choices including a very nice sushi bar. If you like this type of concept they pull it off very well the chefs are funny and entertaining definitely try it out.

while searching places to eat while on our vacation and looking for specials I found a news article from 2/2012 that this place was cited for unclean conditions and LIVE ROACHES found in the kitchen I'll pass on this place wmbfnews.com/story/17012…

An extremely well run and efficient Hibachi experience. The quality of ingredients were above average and the service was very attentive considering how busy it was.

    (4)
  • Paul B.

Food was really, really good. Portions were a good size and steak and scallops were great. What reduced my review from 4 stars was the overall cleanliness of the restaurant. Bathrooms were disgusting and the teppan table and seats were not well cleaned after the prior seating. There was food remnants on the table, seats and floor. The chef was also not very engaging, but that could be the result of some rather lame table companions.

First off we went at the height of "in season" . Stopped by at 7:30pm and had an hour wait. Hot as blazes outside and then when we were seated it was hot as blazes in our table area. There were fans going and the hostess apologized for the temperature and said the A/C had been out and they were waiting for it to be repaired. Ok, we decided to stay because we were starving. It was getting hotter by the moment and finally our cook arrived. He was good and the food was good but there was a family there in which the kids were afraid of fire and had seafood allergies, so the cook had to stop and retrieve special utensils for them. Ugg! As we left we mentioned to the hostess/front end people that they should not subject people to sitting in that hot area we were in. Her reply was that there was nothing wrong with the A/C and that if you come to a Japanese steakhouse you should know that it's going to be hot. That send a chill down my spine. I really don't like to be lied to and her manner was just too much. In fact I have waited a couple of weeks to calm down before I wrote this.

We have eaten here several times over the years and each time has been just fine. I can't say that it is a wonderful Japanese Steak House, because it is not as good as some that we go to locally. I would not make a point to go here again.

    (2)
  • Josh B.

We have been there a few times and it is always perfect. They have a bar area where you can wait, but the wait is never too bad. The service is great. The dining room is right on the lake and it has an open, lively atmosphere. We go there every time we come to MB. It is about $13-25 per person for soup, salad, main course and desert.

I came with a party of four based upon yelp reviews, our service was pretty slow. Some of cooks are better than others. At another table one was singing while he flipped the spatulas and prepared food. Ours did other classic Japanese steakhouse "jokes". Overall it was just okay. The food portions are unreal I had chicken and shrimp... If I had to do over I would have only had shrimp. In my opinion your experience is based on service.

Food was great. Service was great. But seating so tight that I couldn't eat without being elbowed or elbowing someone myself.

    (4)
  • Eddie M.

I'm really tired of this place and will never go again. The menu is WAY over priced. The chefs have zero sense of humor and cannot handle when kids ask them questions or whatever involving the kids needs. Dry humor and not funny. Their appeal has worn on me and I'll never return.

  • Nitol H.

I was here during spring break and me and my friend loved it. I'm surprised to read the bad reviews. The bar is great the drinks are also super cheap (compared to nyc). Our bartender was awesome! As for the hibachi, our chef was HILARIOUS, he was really great. We were laughing the whole time. The food is also very good. Also they give you free ice cream at the end! Loved this place.

  • Heather G.

Good food. Nice chef's and good service. The line (especially "in season") are RIDICULOUS. This restaurant takes reserveations so I suggest you make one before you come! We waited an hour and half for a table. The food was good.. I've had better hibatchi but it was good. I wasn't that impressed with the "yum yum" sauce but I still ate it! Would go back but not the best hibatch I've ever had.

  • Daniel S.

Fantastic, I'm a huge fan of Japanese Steak Houses, and I wasn't let down, even though it was a bit pricier than some places, the food was excellent. The right amount of veggies and rice, and some fantastic shrimp, solid Chicken and Filet Mignon. I ate like a pig, paid the price for my sins with the bill, and enjoyed the experience enough to go back - again.

    (5)
  • Jay F.

It's a good solid Japanese steakhouse. Good, fresh food that is, in Japanese steakhouse style, sliced, diced and mixed in front of you. You can't go wrong going here.

Cost a little bit, but lets be real what Hibachi restaurant doesn't. Expect a $40-50 bill for two people but its an awesome place to eat. Have walked away happy everytime I've been and always have plenty of food to take home and the best part is I think it might be just as good the next day. Worth stopping and the chef's are always very friendly.

Me and my wife went here for our anniversary and it was dynamite. It was really busy and our table didn't seem to well with a couple on the end that seemed to hate the world and the guy she was with, Three in the middle just wanting to get drunk and then me and my wife on the other end. The service was fantastic, My wifes tea didn't get to half a glass the whole night and the drinks were pretty good. Our chef was really good and seeing that me and my wife were excited for the show and the food he went the extra step and tried to get everyone into it. There is a few different tricks that I haven't seen at the other Hibachi's that I have been to. We started out with the soup. Then there was the salad (which I got ranch and tasted like it had ginger in it really righteous) and shrimp appitezers. The main course came next and I got the steak and chicken and my wife got the salmon and shimp and both of the meals was cooked great. Then we had a bowl of sherbet. There was no cutting corners and the food was fresh with all the bells and whistles that come with the type of restraunt that it is. After the food I spoke to the manager and we sat down had a drink and chatted for a few minutes before we were got ready to head out and they were close to closing for the night. It was a really good experience and do recommend giveing it a go. Its good for some and not for others but if your looking for an adventure then give it a shot.

  • Jeff S.

Atmosphere is ok....food is terrible! Like most Japanese steakhouses with the Hibachi style eating, you are at the mercy of the cook, as well as the restaurant. Their ingredients are sub-par and they tend to cut corners. Had the filet and shrimp, and though the filet tasted ok, the shrimp was awful...not sure how fresh it was. I would say go to Landry's or Liberty's Steakhouse. Who put's broccoli in their fried rice, and no bean sprouts....really ?!?!

    (1)
  • Mark D.

Great prices for what you get. NY Strip & grilled shrimp is awesome. Cooked perfectly everytime. Very good fried rice & sauces are very tasty. Ginger salad dressing is great. Waiters are ave. Cooks are supposed to put on a show, but are very lackluster & robotic with little personality.

The food here was absolutely delicious. We had Sushi before our meal and it was the best sushi I've had. My Steak, Chicken and Shrimp hibachi was great as well. I would recommend this to anyone wanting Japanese food in Myrtle Beach.

Well, after looking at reviews for the other Japanese Hibachi restaurants, we chose this one. I'm sorry to say we were dissappointed. The food was decent. Nothing great. Our server wasn't entertaining - it was more fun to watch the other cooks cook. It was also like a sauna. Meh, could have been better.

  • Stephanie L.

Best Japanese steakhouse I have ever eaten at! I haven't gotten anything that wasn't great here! I love their sushi! Chicken, steak, seafood, all great! They try to cram too many people at one table is the only down fall. If you aren't a people person & don't like sitting close to someone you do not know I would say it's not for you.

    (5)
  • Alicia S.

IF ONLY I LIVED CLOSER I'd be there now. WE weren't going to go there but the smell of the food was something I couldn't pass up. I love the show, the amount of food, I love the price. I love love love this place.

  • lindsay j.

I'm a big fan of King Kong sushi and while I'm waiting for that to open at Broadway at the Beach, I went here. The wait was an hour but we went straight to the bar section because we just wanted a quick bite to eat. The bar was pretty much empty so that was cool. The sushi was actually very good and the best part was that we were there for happy hour and it was cheap! We got 3 rolls and sake for only $15.00! I will definitely go back there for happy hour!

really enjoyed my visit if you like the concept of habatchi cooked food you will love this, the concept is the same as myabi's. however, the menu was different. to me this was a big plus. they offered the shrimp, chicken, and steak, but they also had a good selection of fish, mahi mahi my favorite and salmon. their menu is available online so you can see it before you go, another plus. we made reservations, which i do reccommend, we live at the beach so we thought it best being its everyones spring break at different weeks. we got there early checked in went to the bar to wait, bartender asked if we wanted anything. very friendly. but the bar was small, you would think as busy as the location like that one is during summer it would have been bigger, but we werent there that long so i was ok with that. we were seated at a great table, very happy with our table had a wonderfully view of the lake and other side of broadway. thumbs up. it was just my husband and i with several couples, met the sweetest couple from PA. hope they had a good vacation. i ordered the mahi mahi, not sure it would be good so i orded the extra ny strip. i am one that is fishy when it comes to fish, yes pun intended. there was no need however, the mahi mahi was excellent. i have had no complaints there at all, or with any of the food. just be prepared, if you are expecting the same rice as myabi with the seasme seeds dont, theirs was different, just as good but but different, you get veggies in your rice. it was good but different. you still get you appetizers( two shrimps), soup, and salad plus a dessert of rainbow sherber. one draw back you only get a fork. no knife of any kind. so if you had to cut your salad you had to use your fork. the plates were a heavy plastic, not that it bothered me to much with it being a busy tourist place. the staff was friendly, and the plates were cleared quickly, my glass was filly often another big plus in my book, the cheif was good, show was just that routine, but i was there basicly for the food and to be with my hubby, a great date nite for me. all in all i was pleased, the amount of food was good, the quaility was excellent, and i loved the view.

My family and I have been going here for years. The show routines get old fast but the food is always great. They give you generous portions. The sushi is excellent indeed and I often just order a bunch of it to go. The restaurant is fairly pricey but generally it is worth it.

Great place to go if you're hungry and want good food. The Chef's are talented, kind, and funny. The price is expected to be somewhat high giving that the food is top notch. It was well worth it. I didn't have any problems with refills, the waiter we had was pretty good.
